The Varkey Foundation joins the Global Education Coalition

04 Jun 2020 |

The Varkey Foundation is proud to announce it has joined UNESCO’s new Global Education Coalition, formed to facilitate inclusive learning opportunities for young people during the unprecedented educational disruption caused by coronavirus.

We join other multilateral partners such as Microsoft, Google, Facebook, the World Health Organization, and the World Bank, to help sustain the education of more than 1.5 billion learners across the planet affected by school and university closures.

The Global Education Coalition seeks to help countries in mobilizing resources and implementing innovative and context-appropriate solutions to provide education remotely, leveraging hi-tech, low-tech and no-tech approaches; seek equitable solutions and universal access; ensure coordinated responses and avoid overlapping efforts; and facilitate the return of students to school when they reopen to avoid an upsurge in dropout rates.
We are working with the Global Education Coalition to put teachers’ voices at the heart of everything it does, drawing upon the experience of those on the front lines of educating children at this difficult time.
