The Varkey Foundation Challenge Fund provides grants to partner organisations that offer innovative solutions in support of our mission. The Challenge Fund seeks to support a small number of early-stage initiatives in their endeavours, with individual grants of up to $50,000 available to help build the capacity of teachers and to strengthen the status of the teaching profession.
Over the next five years the Varkey Foundation commits to catalysing a global, sustainable change in the way teachers are trained, treated and perceived. Our catalytic partnerships with ambitious, forward-thinking organisations are key to progress.
Applications for next year have now closed and will re-open in October 2017.

Center for Innovative Education “Pro.Svit”
Pro.Svit empowers teachers in the Ukraine to become leaders of change in schools. They developed the educational programme “Professional skills”, creating a unique educational environment for teachers to develop their soft skills, challenge their mind-sets and encourage their project work. Due to the lack of resources among Ukranian teachers, they focused on launching a crowd-funding platform for teachers while also encouraging teachers to share their experiences and seek new ways to solve issues.
The Challenge Fund Grant is being used to bolster the ‘Professional Skills’ educational programme for teachers. This three-module programme is aimed at changing the role of teachers from information delivery to creators of a learning environment where each child is a unique personality. They envisage a new generation of teachers, who take responsibility for learning environments and drive small but meaningful changes using project-based approaches.
